Hear ye, hear ye! The hour draws nigh for a twilight revel most rare. Join us for the Moth Ball, where elegance alights on silken wings and wonder stirs beneath the stars. Enjoy an evening under the velvet sky for an event of enchantment, curiosity, and courtly delight. Adorn thyself in garments of grandeur and step into a realm where powdered wings and pollinated dreams reign supreme. This year’s revelry unveils great enchantments for our noble guests: Wander the Enchanted Tanglevine Trail, aglow with eldritch light and woodland magic. Gaze upon a glowing UV moth sheet, where elusive nocturnal nobility descend. Or join the Moth BioBlitz and become a citizen scientist, documenting twilight visitors using iNaturalist. Within the manor (that is, our beloved Nature Center), partake in crafts both merry and meticulous. Mold the earth into native seed balls, fashion thy own moth antennae finery to complete thy woodland regalia, and more. Gaze skyward during our stargazing session, held just beyond the manor’s front doors. There, beneath the night canopy, observe constellations and cosmic curiosities. Is is an astral complement to our earthly celebration. At the PolliTat Parlour, embrace a more permanent mark of thy devotion! Skilled tattoo artists will be on hand offering real tattoos inspired by native Missouri flora and fauna. Test thy wits in the raucous and regal Moth Kahoot Tournament, where glory awaits the sharpest mind in a contest of nature lore and lepidopteran logic. Visit the Moth Mocktail Bar, where botanical brews and native nectar-inspired elixirs are served with flourish and flair. Each one is a toast to the elegance of the natural world. And do not overlook the Nook of Curiosities, where honored guests from the Butterfly House present live insects both exotic and entrancing. Enjoy nature’s living jewels on proud display. As the hour wanes, the court shall gather to crown the evening’s most resplendent guest as the year's Regal Moth, reigning in fluttering glory until the next moonlit ball. And verily, this is but a glimpse. Many more marvels await thy discovery. So come, noble pollinator of the people. Don thy finery, unfurl thy wings, and lose thyself in a celebration of moths, magic, and moonbeams at Powder Valley Nature Center. FAQ: Q: Do people dress up for this event? A: Yes! We invite you to dress in regal attire inspired by your favorite moth. There will be a crowning for Regal Moth based on the best dressed voted upon by event attendees. Our Regal Moth is then crowned for all to witness. Q: Does this event cost? A: Nope! Our programs are free to attend! The only parts of the event that cost are for flash tattoos as well as any food truck purchases you'd like to make. Q: Do I have to show up at 7 and stay for the whole event? A: Moth Ball is set-up as a come-and-go style event. Please stay for as long as you'd like! The only scheduled activities for the event are our crowning of Regal Moth at 8:30 p.m., followed by our Moth Kahoot at 9:00 p.m. Lauren Baker
