Additional Information: Instructed by:
Registration required (adults) Cooley Lake Conservation Area is located about 20 miles east of Kansas City and features a marshy lake that was once the main channel of the Missouri River. The lake and wetlands are an attractive stopover for spring migrating waterfowl, including American white pelicans. The area also features a bluff forest that is rich in spring wildflowers, including many ephemerals like bloodroot and goldenseal. The rich forest is also attractive to migrating warblers making their way north. The diversity of river and forest habitats makes for an ideal opportunity to see plenty spring birds and blooms all in one place. We will meet at the viewing platform next to the marsh. Bring binoculars and be prepared for a two-mile hike that includes some steep ups and downs. Directions and a map will be sent via e-mail the week before and the day of the program. If accommodations are needed, please e-mail the instructor after registering and at least one week prior to the program. Pat P Whalen
