| Dreaming of a vibrant wildscape buzzing with pollinators and bursting with native blooms? Ready to see birds out your window and fireflies dancing in the dark? This class is for the curious and passionate alike. There’s nothing better than flipping through seed catalogs, sipping hot tea, and planning a native garden. This program will guide you through the essentials of seasonal preparation, planting, and winter seeding to set the stage for a thriving naturescape. In this casual workshop, we’ll dig into the why, when, and how of transforming turf into a 4-season habitat - covering everything from removing unwanted grass to prepping your space and choosing the right native biota. Whether you're starting small or envisioning a backyard national park, this session will help you create a space where biodiversity thrives and nature comes home. Your planting can focus on pollinators, wild edible plants, dyes/inks, cordage, wildlife cover, etc. or a combination of all of these. We will have a couple of examples of different types of gardens, like wild teas and dyes. We will also have seed catalogs, native wildflower guides, and seed packs to save for next winter. Please bring along paper and pencils to sketch your hopes and dreams for the space. It's also helpful to bring a couple of photos of the area you wish to plant along with some rough measurements. With that info, we can sketch the area out and pick native plants that match the sunlight and moisture conditions and set you up for success. |
