Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation, but it can be dangerous and ineffective when not used properly. This workshop will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland management.

Prescribed Fire is a natural and effective tool for wildlife and habitat management. This field day and the online portion completed before hand will give the landowner/land manager the knowledge to safely use prescribed fire. Upon registration, participants are asked to complete the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course. To find the online training portion, go to https://www.hunter-ed.com/prescribedburn/. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite. Please bring your certificate of completion and mileage sheet to the workshop. A demonstration burn will be conducted if weather allows. Please bring appropriate clothing- long sleeve shirt and pants made of natural fibers, leather gloves, and closed toe boots. Keith Ringler

From Columbia, take I-70 west to Hwy 40/240, take exit north/west and continue on Hwy 240 12 miles to 240 spur, turn right towards Fayette and continue on 240 8 miles to three way junction of Hwy P/240/Co Road 453.
