Do you need an excuse to get outdoors for some fresh air? Treat yourself to a refreshing winter afternoon at Powder Valley as we slow down and explore the small wonders that thrive in the cold season. On this guided walk, we’ll observe, identify, and learn about the common mosses and fungi that brighten the winter landscape once you know where to look. These often overlooked organisms reveal an entirely different side of the forest, and winter is the perfect time to appreciate their textures, colors, and surprising resilience. Feel free to bring a hand lens if you have one, or borrow one from us to get an up close look at these miniature ecosystems. The trail we’ll be using is a 2/3 mile paved loop with moderate slopes—just enough movement to warm you up while still allowing plenty of time to pause, notice, and enjoy. This program will be canceled in the event of rain or snow. Please note: Registering for this and other MDC programs means you plan to attend. This helps us honor the time and effort of our instructors and ensures space is available for everyone who wants to participate. DAVID J BRUNS
