| This program is hosted by the Webster Groves Nature Study Society Nature Book Group. Have you read about the idea that urban raccoons may be self-domesticating, which involves changing certain traits that reduce their aggressiveness. And bears in Italy living near people are becoming less aggressive, possibly due to the aggressive ones getting hunted. This month’s book, Tamed: Ten Species That Changed Our World, written by Alice Roberts, an anthropologist, investigates many ways that humans have accidentally and on purpose domesticated familiar crops and animal. We will start by discussing the first half of the book, which includes dogs, wheat, cattle, maize and potatoes. |
