Designed for beginners and those curious about ancestral skills, this course offers a comprehensive overview of the bark tanning process—a natural, sustainable method used for centuries to transform raw hides into durable leather. In this non-hands-on, informational class, participants will gain a solid foundational understanding of: -The principles and history of bark tanning -How to source and prepare deer hides -Harvesting and using tannin-rich tree barks -The full tanning timeline: from fleshing and soaking to tanning and finishing -Tools and materials required for each stage -Common challenges and how to avoid or troubleshoot them This class is perfect for anyone interested in heritage crafts, sustainable practices, or planning to try bark tanning on their own in the future. No prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a respect for the process. Please note: This is an instruction-only class.
