White Oak baskets are an Ozark tradition that makes use of two species of trees that may grow near you. You will learn about the trees that were harvested, where they grow, and how to choose one to cut. You will also learn about methods of processing the wood into weaving strips. Lastly, you will see some different types of white oak baskets as well as learn how to identify white oak baskets and care for them. While this class is not a “how to” on weaving a basket, it will cover the rich history of white oak basket making, preparing materials and how that fits into forest management. Who knows, it may inspire you to learn more and start your own basket weaving endeavor! ARRON J HENDERSHOTT
