Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation, but it can be dangerous and ineffective when not used properly. This workshop will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland management.

Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation, but it can be dangerous and ineffective when not used properly. This workshop will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland management. Additional Information: This field day is the second portion of a 2-part training. The virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course is a mandatory prerequisite and costs $25.00. Upon completion of the online course, please bring your 'certificate of completion' to this field day portion in order to obtain full certification. Weather permitting, we will be conducting a prescribed burn so please dress accordingly with leather boots, safety glasses, and cotton or wool clothing. Participants will learn about burn equipment, burn line installation, safe weather parameters, ignition operations, and other techniques to safely conduct a prescribed burn. Light snacks and water will be provided, but please bring a sack lunch. |
