Join us at August A Busch Memorial Conservation Area for the first ever Winter Edition of Camp Hellbender-no newts allowed! Camp Hellbender is designed to let adults feel like a kid again and have some fun in the outdoors while exploring some of the best conservation areas in the region that MDC has to offer! For this special winter camp, we’ll spend the morning indoors learning some fly-tying in the classroom and making several unique flies to keep, followed by a lunch break, and then we’ll head out for casting practice and a hands-on fly-fishing for trout program at one of our private education lakes. Extra flies will be available to fish with if desired, and all materials will be provided. All fly-fishing will be from the lake shore, so no waders are needed. Participants with no fly-fishing experience and seasoned fly-fishers alike are welcome to register. Participants will not need a fishing permit for this program, as we have a special-use permit that covers fishing for educational programming. All trout will be catch-and-release. Please bring a water bottle and a lunch, and any snacks you may want. Refrigeration will be available if needed. Please dress in layers to ensure comfort for both inside and outside portions of the camp. This program is part of our ongoing Camp Hellbender Series! Campers will receive a special badge to commemorate each camp they attend throughout the year. Sabrina Hansen
