Come on over to Meramec Conservation Area to explore the Lone Hill Onyx Cave. Normally this cave is closed to the public for conservation efforts so getting to tour it is a rare treat. We will be talking about cave safety, caves as an ecosystem, and how the Missouri Department of Conservation protects these treasures. This will be a guided experience and while most of this cave is walkable there are some brief areas that require crawling. The time allotted accounts for the short hike to and from the cave, gearing up and several hours in the cave. Please dress appropriately for the weather and for 55-degree temperatures. Please wear pants and a long sleeve shirt that you do not mind getting wet and dirty, as well as rubber boots. An extra change of clothes, shoes, water, and a snack is recommended. Helmets and headlamp will be provided, but please bring 2 additional sources of light (such as headlamps or flashlights). Please ensure that any items (gear, boots, clothing) that have previously been in caves have been washed thoroughly before arriving at this program.
