Learn from our experienced instructors wildlife identification, habits and habitats, regulations, safety, hunting strategies, equipment and game care. Attend this class to increase your success in the field.

We are having a Squirrel hunt for youth hunters, 10-15 years old in age on Friday August 23rd of an evening and Saturday August 24th in the morning, you need to be there for both days. Friday, August 23rd we will have a classroom portion over the basic equipment, regulations, and how to hunt to them. We will also have firearm safety talk and shooting lesson. Saturday morning is the day of the hunt, you will be assigned a Missouri Department of Conservation mentor/volunteer and an area to hunt. After the hunt we will demonstrate on how to clean and prepare a Squirrel for cooking. We will provide the guns and ammunition for the shooting lesson and for the hunt. Guardians of the youth hunters are allowed and welcome to go hunting with them but understand an MDC mentor/volunteer will still be assigned to the youth hunter. Items the hunter will need to bring are dark color clothing and footwear suitable to be worn in the outside elements, woods, brush etc. Bug spray and a thermacell for mosquito repellent if you have one. Location Information

Hunnewell Lake Conservation Area covers 1,905 acres and includes a 228-acre lake, and a fish hatchery. The hatchery raises a variety of fish including channel catfish, largemouth bass and bluegill sunfish, walleye, and hybrid sunfish for stocking.
Directions:

From the town of Hunnewell, MO on Hwy 36, take Route Z north 3 miles to the area. The entrance to the area will be on the left hand side of Route Z.

You must cancel your registration before Friday, August 23, 2024 - Saturday, August 24, 2024.
Age Policy:

All registrants for this event must be between 10 and 15 years of age by 8/23/2024.
