This free information class answers all your questions! The Chert Glades Chapter of Missouri Master Naturalist is offering a training course beginning September 03, 2024. The includes twelve weekly classes on Tuesday evenings and three Saturday field trips. The program is designed for adults who want to know more about and become involved in the management and protection of Missouri’s natural resources. An informational meeting will be held on July 30, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center (Joplin). Application information will be available. Attendance at this meeting is strongly recommended if you plan to participate in the training course and become a conservation-minded volunteer. This course is limited to 24 participants and enrollment will be on a first-come basis. The deadline to enroll is August 9, 2024. The fee for the course is $110.00. Limited partial scholarships are available. To become a Master Naturalist, participants take 40 hours of basic training, 8 hours of advanced training, and contribute 40 hours of natural-resource related volunteer service within the following 15-month period. Topics covered in the course include key ecological concepts, karst, insects, Missouri natural communities, stream ecology, invasive species, birds, fishes, mammals, ancient Missouri landscapes, amphibians and reptiles, nature centered public programing & displays, and natural resource management. The Missouri Master Naturalist Program is a community based natural resource education and volunteer program with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and University of Missouri Extension as partners. Its purpose is to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within local communities for the State of Missouri. |
