Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation, but it can be dangerous and ineffective when not used properly. This workshop will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland management.

: Please make sure to record all usernames and passwords you create, because they cannot be looked up. Upon registration you will be emailed a link to the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course within one week. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite. You must print and bring your certificate of completion and mileage sheet to the workshop. Weather permitting, we will try to conduct a demo burn. Attendees should plan on having appropriate PPE to include leather gloves, leather boots and ALL cotton clothing such as denim or Carhartt-type garments. A cotton bandanna is also advisable. Directions:

Take Hwy W south of Meadville off Hwy 36. Continue south on W until you enter the Conservation Area. Continue to head south on gravel to the headquarters building.
