The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a worldwide community science event developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. It takes place during Presidents Day weekend each year, which is from February 16-19, this year. During the event, bird enthusiasts count birds that they see in their yards, local parks and/or nature reserves and submit their data on-line. This in-person program will introduce participants to details about this event, what it is, and how it works, followed by an actual, official, count of birds in the natural habitats of Forest Park, St. Louis, starting from the “Forest Park Hatchery”. This program will be all outdoors and involve walking about 1 mile on well maintained trails. Please dress appropriately with good footwear. Bringing binoculars is encouraged. This program will be cancelled if the weather forecast calls for heavy rain or icy road conditions. Details about the meeting location will be emailed to program registrants two days before the program. See also, a virtual introduction to the GBBC on the 13th, and a bird count at Powder Valley Nature Center on the 16th, in MDC Events. DAVID J BRUNS
