The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a worldwide community science event developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. It takes place during Presidents Day weekend each year, which is from February 16-19, this year. During the event, bird enthusiasts count birds that they see in their yards, local parks and/or nature reserves and submit their data on-line. This in-person program will introduce participants to details about this event, what it is, and how it works, followed by an actual count of birds visiting the bird feeders at Powder Valley from the comfort of the nature center viewing windows. Entering the official bird count data through the on-line platform, eBird, will be demonstrated. Bringing binoculars is encouraged. See also, a virtual introduction to the GBBC on the 13th, and a bird count in the field at Forest Park on Presidents Day, in MDC Events. |
