Watch the sun as it sets over the fields and prairies in the western sky. Then head east on the Confluence Trail to catch the full Snow Moon as it rises over the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. We may hear the sounds of barred owls and eastern screech-owls in the woods. Listen for the yipping, howling, and barking of coyotes on our prairies and in the fields across the rivers. Examine a coyote pelt and feel the sharp edges of their teeth in a skull. Learn how these "little prairie wolves," as Lewis and Clark called them, play an important role in the prairie ecosystem. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots. Bring a water bottle and a walking stick if you have one. Meet at lot "L," about 4 miles from the front entrance. Follow the signs along the gravel road as you take the 15-minute drive from the front entrance to lot "L." Sunset - 5:49pm. Moonrise - 6:06pm Anna Cooke
