Have you ever wondered how to read a map? Just like reading a book, there are key characteristics that are true to all maps. Participants will learn what features help us read a map, as well as learn basic compass skills. We will conclude with a guided 1-mile hike on the Rock Quarry Short Loop. Using what we learned by noticing the elevation change, we will figure out what direction we are facing and calculate how far we have traveled while on our hike. While the class is geared for kids in elementary grades, families are welcome on the hike portion of the class. Class will meet at the Education Center at Rockwoods Reservation. Samantha Mendoza
