Beginners’ Nature Photography Hike to the Confluence Photographs by: Cathysue Smick, Tina Cheung, Keith Woodyard, Pat Behle, August Wise, and Anna Cooke Nature photography is a great way to learn more about and connect with the nature around you. You don’t need a fancy camera to get started. You may even be shocked by the photographs you can take with just your smartphone! These photographs were taken in January 2022 by participants of the Beginners’ Nature Photography Hike to the Confluence at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. We hiked to the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, stopping often along the way to snap photographs that inspired us. Even though it was a cold winter’s day, participants were still able to capture the beauty of Columbia Bottom. If you’re interested in a nature photography program or any of the Missouri Department of Conservation’s other free programs, head to www.mdc.mo.gov/events to see upcoming programs. Shelly Colatskie
