What is a slough? A slough is an old part of a river or wetland that has been cut off. At times it is full to the brim with water; at other times it is just muddy or totally dry. It is the home territory of frogs, toads, turtles and even beavers. At times the slough at Columbia Bottom joins both the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. We will look for turtles and listen for amphibian calls at the slough as we make our way to the confluence. On our return we will watch the sunset from the Cropland Overlook. Meet at lot āLā about 4 ½ miles from the front entrance. Allow 15 minutes to drive from the front entrance to lot āLā, Please bring a flashlight and a walking stick if you have one. We will be following social distancing guidelines as appropriate. |
