| Do you want the experience of hearing coonhounds track and tree some of Missouri’s masked bandits? This program is for you! The Missouri Dept. of Conservation is partnering with members of the Greene County Coon Hunter’s Association to host a raccoon hunt for folks wanting to learn the basics of racoon hunting. Registered participants will be partnered with a hunting guide and hounds. Then sent out in the woods to harvest some racoons. Participants will be divided in groups of 5 and MUST provide their own transportation to and from the hunting locations, which will be determined the evening of the hunt. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather conditions and bring a flashlight to walk through the woods. Registered participants will learn the basics of Missouri racoon hunting, a treasured hunting activity for generations by many Missouri furbearers. Topics of the Event 1) Seasons and Regulations of racoon hunting 2) Legal times and methods of harvest 3) Basic training and handling of a coonhound 4) Harvesting and skinning methods 5) Basic coonhound knowledge – how the hound’s scent, track, and tree and the associated barks with each. 6) Modern tracking collars and system operation All participants must possess a Missouri small game hunting license if not exempt Come join us for an educational and fun hunting event in the woods! Participants should expect to do a fair amount of walking, but hopefully the dogs will tree close form where they are turned out! Driving directions - West from Springfield on I-44. 15 miles to PP Hwy, North 1/4 mile to Hwy 266, West 1 mile to F Hwy, North on F Hwy 2 miles The Greene County Coon Hunter's is located on F Hwy directly across the road from a rural Bois D Arc fire station. |
