The main goal of this hunt is to provide a positive mentored experience for six beginning turkey hunters. The hunt will take place May 1-2, 2021 at the Runge Conservation Nature Center, Jefferson City, MO. Longbow, recurve bow, compound bow, crossbow, or atlatl only. Please read the following information carefully: All interested hunters must contact Kevin Lohraff to request an application (kevin.lohraff@mdc.mo.gov or 573-526-5544). Only hunters 11 and older who have never Telechecked a turkey are eligible to apply for the hunt. All hunters are required to hunt with a mentor assigned by MDC from ground blinds provided and placed by MDC. All hunters ages 11-17 must also be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Safety/Skill Requirement: All hunters are required to attend a safety/skill check session on April 30 at Runge. Sessions are one half-hour long and will be scheduled between 1-5:30 PM. A mandatory pre-hunt orientation meeting begins at 6 PM on April 30. Any hunter who does not attend the safety/skill check session or the pre-hunt orientation will be disqualified from the hunt. Hunter Education Requirement: All hunters age 18 and older must be hunter-ed certified or exempt prior to May 1. Hunters age 11-17 are exempt from this requirement for this hunt. Permit: All hunters must have purchased a 2021 Spring Turkey Hunting permit prior to the hunt. Limit: One (1) turkey with a visible beard. NOTE: A turkey taken at this managed hunt counts toward the two-bird season limit. Application: Hunters may apply only as individuals for this hunt.
