Who are the little prairie wolves? Where are the little prairie wolves at Columbia Bottom? When Lewis and Clark explored the trail of the Missouri River, they recorded hearing and finally seeing coyotes. They saw the bushy tails and heard the fierce barking, and called them “little prairie wolves.“ Coyotes play an important role in the wildlife community. We will explore the prairies at CB and listen for their yipping howls. Why do they howl? What is a good time to hear them? Learn interesting facts about coyotes. Take a short walk in the crisp winter air beneath the Full Snow Moon. Meet at lot “K”, the Cropland Overlook, to watch the setting sun and the rising full Snow Moon. Dress for the weather in warm layers and bring a flashlight. Participants will be asked to maintain social distance from others and follow St. Louis County mask mandates. Sunset: 5:52 pm Moonrise: 6:26 pm REBECCA A RODRIGUEZ
