DETAILS

Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation, but it can be dangerous and ineffective when not used properly. This workshop will provide basic information about how to plan and execute a prescribed burn for grassland management.
Additional Information: Instructed by:
This program is geared towards introducing local landowners to prescribed burn methods, available cost-share programs and connecting landowners to their local Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) staff. It is requested that landowners from the following counties register: Carter, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Pulaski, Ripley, Shannon, Texas and Wright Counties. The MDC can assist you with planning your prescribed burns on your property and discuss available cost-share programs. Information on firebreak construction, weather, timing, equipment used and proper burn techniques are provided through this live virtual workshop conducted by MDC Private Lands Staff. Prior to the virtual workshop, participants will receive an information packet in the mail with included burn objectives, an example burn plan, and our Prescribed Burning in Missouri Booklet, and other resources. This virtual workshop is built for landowners who are interested in available cost-share programs for their property. Because this is a virtual workshop, you will be sent a link to our online video platform with further details. If you have any questions regarding this workshop, please reach out to John Ackerson at (417) 256-7161 or email at john.ackerson@mdc.mo.gov. John Ackerson
