Beavers are especially busy this time of year as they prepare for the cold winter months. Walk a wooded path to the bank of the Mississippi River at Columbia Bottom where there is evidence of these industrious engineers’ work. Watch the full “Beaver Moon” as it rises over Duck Island and floods the river’s surface with its silvery light. We will walk from parking lot ”0” to the Mississippi River. Dress for the weather, including shoes suitable for walking on a dirt path and sand, and bring a flashlight and a water bottle. Participants will be asked to maintain social distance from staff and other participants and follow St. Louis County mask-wearing directives. Meet at parking lot “O,” about 4 miles from the front entrance. Allow 10 minutes to drive from the front entrance to lot “0.” For the safety of participants and our staff, MDC asks all guests to observe social distancing guidelines and maintain at least 6 feet from others. Bringing and wearing face coverings is encouraged when indoors, or any time visitors are unable to maintain at least 6 feet from others. Local ordinances requiring face masks will be observed where applicable. Patricia A Behle
