Learn from our experienced instructors wildlife identification, habits and habitats, regulations, safety, hunting strategies, equipment and game care. Attend this class to increase your success in the field.

Registration required (ages 11 and up; 11-17-year old’s must be accompanied by an adult) Although it is preferred, hunters ages 11-15 do not need to be hunter education certified. Ages16 and up need to be either hunter education certified or to purchase an Apprentice Hunter Authorization AND a small game hunting license. All ages will be accompanied by an MDC trained mentor. Squirrel hunting is a great way to introduce people to hunting. It is exciting, fun and most importantly, even new hunters can achieve success! Join us for this exciting workshop as we explore hunting squirrels from the field to your dinner plate. Orientation: (required to participate in hunt) We will meet at the Lake City Shooting Range & Outdoor Education Center for orientation that includes firearm safety, squirrel hunting basics, scouting and a chance to learn new skills with some target shooting. The Hunt: We will meet at Burr Oak Woods nature center for the hunt. A mentor and equipment will be provided. Cooking Wild Squirrel: Participants will clean, prepare and sample our harvest.
