Join MDC Staff and hike along one of the most beautiful sections of the Ozark Trail (OT)! Participants will meet staff at the Peck Ranch Office for an introduction to Peck Ranch Conservation Area and elk management efforts, a quick restroom break, and then drive to the Peck Ranch OT Trailhead to begin the hike. Expect to ascend a steep slope for 1/2 mile up to the Stegall Mountain Glade area, where we will discuss glade ecology and management, then a downhill descent for 1 mile and walking north to Rocky Creek Spur. We will eat our lunch along the trail and continue on to Klepzig Mill while passing the beautiful Buzzard Mountain shut-ins along the way. Information will be shared regarding the geology of the Ozark hills, the culture and history of the area, as well as a water filtration demo and the chance to refill your water bottles with the waters of Rocky Creek! Trail length is approximately 6.5 miles. At the conclusion of the hike, staff will shuttle you from Klepzig Mill back to your vehicles at Peck Ranch Trailhead. Please bring a sack lunch, refillable water bottle, a comfortable backpack for the hike, snacks, and hiking poles or a walking stick if you prefer for the steep inclines. Be prepared for the weather by dressing in layers and wearing a weather-proof jacket, and wear comfortable hiking shoes or boots. Maps of the route will be provided. Location Information

If you are hiking, restrooms are available at the Peck Ranch Conservation Office but not at the Peck Ranch Ozark Trail Head. "Peck Ranch Conservation Area" into Google Maps will lead you to the office.

Directions:

Peck Ranch Conservation Area is 5 miles east of Winona on Route H, then 7 miles east on gravel in Shannon County.

Cancellation Policies:

You must cancel your registration before Sunday, March 15, 2020.
Age Policy:

All registrants for this event must be a minimum age of 12 years old by 3/15/2020.
