Join us for a free Introduction to Orienteering course! In the first part of this program, participants will use a provided 3-2-1 Silva Compass to practice dialing in and taking a bearing, sighting an object, pacing their distance and map-reading. Next, participants will use their skills to complete one of several orienteering courses within the MDC Ozark Regional Office grounds by finding target trees with a special symbol specific to their course to work towards unscrambling a secret message! The majority of the class will take place outdoors. Participants should be prepared for the weather by wearing appropriate footwear and cold-weather coats. The courses will require hiking up and down a steeper slope through forested areas that may be thick with brush - be prepared to orienteer like a pioneer! Mary Beth Factor
