Landscapes and Birds of Missouri, November hallway exhibit by Joseph Parish The exhibit is multimedia, with the various works being done in classic water color, opaque water color (French Gouache), acrylic, oils, and photography. Most of the artwork consists of birds of Missouri, including common songbirds, water fowl, and raptors. In addition, the exhibit includes a few Missouri landscapes, which may be familiar to you, presented in different styles and media. Typically, a work is inspired from original photographs taken by myself right here in Missouri ranging from my own backyard to the Mississippi Flyway. I like birds for perhaps all the usual reasons that you do, but as an artist, I am intrigued by the variety of striking plumage pattern and color, yet commonly maintaining a similarly simple shape that is easy to capture. I appreciate the wide variety of ecosystems that birds inhabit, which adds to the challenge and pleasure of integrating classic landscape art, but in a way, that will enhance and not distract from the subject.
