The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and National Park Service (NPS) present “Gigs and Ghosts” Oct. 19, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Round Springs lower landing. Gigging season on Ozark streams and rivers runs from Sept. 15 through Jan. 31. Gigging consists of spearing fish rather than catching them with a hook and line. It is primarily a nighttime activity and is most effective in shallow, clear water. MDC will instruct youths, ages 8 to 15, on fish identification and gigging techniques and regulations. NPS will host a storytelling session around a campfire on the gravel bar. Participants should note this is program is not at Twin Pines Conservation Education Center but is at Round Springs lower landing. Limit 20. Reservations are required. Register on-line at www.mdc.mo.gov/twinpines. For further information call (573)325-1381. Information about gigging can be found at www.mdc.mo.gov/fishgigging. |
