Discover Nature Girls’ Camp is a FREE 2-day, 1-night camp held by the Missouri Department of Conservation for girls ages 11-15. This camp will give them a supportive learning environment to actively participate in “hands-on” outdoor skills led by experts in their field. One of the goals of camp is to encourage participants to leave with the confidence to explore Missouri’s diverse outdoors on their own. Of all the experiences a girl can have during her childhood, few offer the profound, life-changing power of camp. She has the opportunity to grow her self-esteem, explore the great outdoors, make new friends and have great experiences she will not soon forget. Previous attendees are not eligible to participate. Some of the skills they will be participating in are: * Archery ** Fishing Equipment * Rifle Shooting ** Shotgun Shooting * Conservation Management and Ethics ** Firearm Safety * Tree Stand Safety ** Water Safety/Canoeing ** Women in Conservation * Fish ID * Fishing At the completion of camp the girls will become Hunter Education certified so they may continue using their newly learned skills. Your child must complete the online portion before camp. If they arrive at camp without this completed, she will be turned away. To fulfill this requirement, choose one of three options: Option 1: SELF-STUDY MANUAL: Students can learn at their own pace by studying the hunter education student manual. Contact your local Conservation Agent to obtain a copy. Option 2: ONLINE COURSE: Log on to www.mdc.mo.gov to learn the information online through a computer or mobile device and complete the review quizzes. Print and mail a copy of the Missouri Skills Session Qualifier Certificate for $15.00 fee. Option 3: CLASSROOM SESSION: Register by logging onto www.mdc.mo.gov and attend the 4-hour Classroom Session presented by Hunter Education instructors. Students will receive the Missouri Skills Session Qualifier Certificate. Guardians interested in becoming a chaperone should contact Conservation Agent Kevin Powell at 660/216-1389.
