Missouri, the Cave State, is home to over 7,000 natural caves. Come and join us as we discuss the caves and cave life of Missouri as well as an introduction to caving safely and why we need to protect this unique ecosystem. We will meet at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center first to briefly go over caves and safety and then we will caravan to Cliff Cave at Cliff Cave County Park in South County for the field trip portion. The field trip will consist of surveying for different cave biology as well as learning how graffiti is removed from cave. Please dress in layers and dress warm. Helmets and one flashlight will be provided. Please wear rubber boots as well as bring 2 additional sources of light (such as headlamps or flashlights). Field trip portion will be canceled in heavy rain. If large clusters of bats are encountered, the field trip portion will be cut short. ***Register each person individually. No one under 10 allowed during the field trip portion due to safety and proper equipment available. *** Shelly Colatskie
