Late winter and early spring is a great time of the year to be out in the woods scouting for deer sign in preparation for the next deer hunting season. With no foliage on the trees and the ground usually wet, you can easily find deer sign such as tracks, deer droppings, rubs, bedding areas and even old scrapes. The sign you find this time of the year can reveal a lot about deer movement and habits that will give you a “head start” for the upcoming season in the fall. It’s also a great time of the year to find deer sheds (dropped antlers) and see the sign of other wildlife while you look for deer sign. This course is designed for the person with little experience and wants to get started hunting deer. This course isn’t just for the beginning deer hunter though, it can also be for other wildlife enthusiasts such as photographers, hikers or folks who just enjoy being in the outdoors. The course will start in the classroom at 10:00am and we will learn about deer habits and what to look for while scouting. The next part of the course will be actually going out into the woods for about 1.5 to 2 hour hike looking for the deer sign you learned about in the classroom. The last hour or so will be returning to the classroom to share your discoveries with the rest of the class. Class will be canceled during extreme cold or rainy weather.
