This class is for children ages 12+ years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The program will be limited to 10 participants. Are you looking for a new type of fishing to try out? Have you used a baitcasting reel before but have never been taught to use it properly? Come check out our Baitcasting for Beginners class! This program will help participants understand the mechanical functions of a baitcaster reel, how to spool line on the reel properly, how to adjust the centrifugal and magnetic brakes on the reel to match bait and line weight, casting mechanics, retrieval techniques, hand coordination, and how to prevent/clear the dreaded baitcaster “bird nest”. The instructional portion will last about an hour, followed by hands-on fishing to practice the techniques you’ve learned! The program will be conducted at Lake #15 at August Busch Conservation Area. All fishing gear will be provided by the instructors. Please wear clothing and close-toed shoes suitable for outdoor and water activities. It is recommended that participants bring sunglasses, a water bottle, and sunscreen. Registration for Saturday morning classes closes the Thursday before at 4:00pm. Both your EMAIL and PHONE NUMBER are REQUIRED during registration, so that we may contact you in the event of cancellations due to inclement weather or other circumstances. You will be notified of any cancellations at least an hour ahead of time, assuming you have provided both forms of contact information. Anna Conrades
