Has your summer break flown by and you’re still craving some quality family time in the outdoors? If you are as tired of being indoors as we are, let’s get outside and enjoy Missouri’s vast outdoors! We want to help you learn about our bountiful natural resources in your own backyard. This virtual program will challenge you to host a backyard campout at your favorite camping spot, whether that’s in your backyard or at one of our conservation areas. Through a virtual program, we will share a few outdoor activities to help you and your family learn about nature and have some fun while doing it. All participants will receive an email with a suggested list of games and outdoor activities for you and your children, pulled from our Discover Nature curriculum. There will be a photo contest with prizes for the winning campers, though the focus of this event is getting young learners outside and exploring nature! There will be two categories in the photo contest: nature and people. “Nature” includes anything you may find outdoors, living or non-living. Examples are flowers, trees, insects, rivers, lakes, animals, etc. “People” is all about fun moments captured from your campout. One winning photo from each category will be chosen and prizes will be sent to the winning photographers. In order to participate in the photo contest, photos must be submitted by September 10th, 2021. A link to the virtual program will be emailed to all participants before the time of the event, so make sure to put an accurate email address when you register. *All photos entered into the contest may be used by MDC and could be posted on MDC’s public website or social media pages.
